Tom Veit is ready to run
Of the eight general managers the XFL will eventually hire to run its teams, Tom Veit may have the most difficult challenge. Not only does Veit, recently brought on board as the vice president and general manager of Orlando, have to compete with a number of other entertainment options in his city (Mickey Mouse, Orlando Magic, etc.), but he has to immediately prove to a fickle football audience that his team has got the goods.

ORLANDO, Fla. (August 8, 2000) -- Galen Hall, who led the Rhein Fire to a pair of NFL-Europe League championships in the past three years, has been named Head Coach and Director of Football Operations for the new XFL franchise in Orlando, team Vice President and General Manager Tom Veit announced today. "We could not have been more fortunate in hiring a coach of Galen's Hall stature," Veit said in making the announcement.

ORLANDO, Fla. (August 8, 2000) -- Will McClay, who has spent 11 seasons in the Arena Football League as a player and coach, has been named Director of Player Personnel for Orlando XFL. McClay, 33, played four seasons (1989-92) for the Detroit Drive at wide receiver/linebacker. He helped pace the Drive to three ArenaBowl championships in four seasons.
